Quiet
Always it was there, underlying everything, the longing and loss that dug so deeply into her heart she almost didn't want to breathe for fear of bringing in more pain. Would it ever stop, she wondered. Would a time ever come when her life might feel whole again? How was it possible to be so happy when this place contained the most painful memories of her life?
And that was how she continued to feel for the rest of the evening, tranquil, joyous and satisfyingly absorbed in the heady sensation of being somewhere she belonged, even though she didn't.
It's a ballet story really – a story crafted without words but comprehensible to anyone who sees it. She likes the quiet, because when there are no words to be had, you can't tangle yourself in the wrong ones.
She needed to get some air, to put some distance between herself and the images coming from those words, so gathering up her hat and soothe some of the angst from her heart.
